Why does my friend reinvent history to believe whatever she wants to believe?

A friend of mine who I’ll call Tina seems to have reinvented history to convince herself that my best guy friend who I’ll call Jack, wants her friendship, even though he’s made it very obvious to everyone that’s seen them together that he hates her.

I could tell, because Tina asked me to specifically ask my friend Jack to join us for dinner at a local diner. Why do people reinvent history, to believe what they choose rather than accept reality, to this extent? While it’s harmless, isn’t it also pointless? What does it achieve? She also believes that she’s the most beautiful and the brightest in our social group, to the extent where she thinks she can model and become a doctor (she’s not).

I genuinely don’t see the point in her believing all of this when it’s not true, as it is pointless.

My friend does the same and it's so annoying usually she invents a history with a guy friend who suddenly likes her now... He hates her and can't stand her!

They are very selfish and deulde themselves about many things. Very small minded and mostly self focused.

It's how she thinks and I can't change her or stop her so I play along...

Yeah he said he would come and I have not heard from him... Maybe he will be late?

She is going to make up he texted her that he won't come any ways so why not let her have a fantasy till she gets drunk and sleeps with who ever is at the pizza place.

I have a relative like this... I think they know they are lying but if you're a sucker you play along with them. This person told me for years that I was a bad guy because I didn't do XYZ long ago. So one day I find proof that I actually did XYZ back then. The second they hear I have proof their story changes to, "I never said you didn't do XYZ. That's your imagination." ha ha ha ha ha!
