Can you really trust family?

Over the years I’ve distanced myself from from family I’ve recently been trying to be better about keeping in touch and reaching out.

My cousin is currently staying at OUR house she was previously staying in Florida for school while in Florida she was struggling at some point and would ask me for money often at the time I was working a decent job and had money to spare so I would send she was grateful at the time so much so she told her mom and her mom told my mom.

At certain point I started to struggle and have been for a while now she sent me money once or twice and then every time after she would say she would send but never actually would. Now she’s staying in my house literally since me and my brother co-signed for my mom so we could get it.

A few weeks back I was short on cash and I asked her for like 5$ and then again in a previous situation likes month or two ago and I only asked for 5$ both times nothing crazy. Prior to this she gave me a ride home from work when she asked for gas money I sent her more e then she asked for.

So I say all this to say that my mom came in my room today saying my aunt was complaining because my cousin was telling her I was always asking for money.

The last time I asked for any money was almost two weeks ago because I just started a new job and I’ve been having complications getting my check so on that particular day I would’ve be stranded at work with no way home. I worked things out on my own. But I strikes me as crazy that she over here complaining cause when she was struggling I sent her money with no questions asked.

I’ve realized over the years the family is fake as shit I trust damn near no one outside my immediately family cause the rest of them just talk shit about you behind your back even living under your own roof smh. Blood is thicker then water they say what a loud of shit it be the ones closest to you that alway do you dirty.

It’s great that you helped her no questions asked while she was in school, but she’s just starting to get on her feet, she can’t even afford to live on her own yet.


You had a good job at that time so you had more money available, but does she? I’m sure she’s trying to save so she can move and you can stop holding it over her head that she’s living at “your house”.


It sounds like she vented to her mother how so many girls do with their parents, and since sisters gossip your aunt told your mom. So while I can see where you’re coming from, I don’t think it’s very fair to call her untrustworthy because she isn’t helping you with money at the same capacity as you were able to at the time. I guess the only fake part would be that she feels some type of way but not having a conversation with you about it. But I know how some people avoid confrontation and you live together so she may not want to create and uncomfortable living situation.

Honestly blood ain’t thicker than water no more. Most people just wanna get something from you. Once you say no they go bye bye. I help people out expecting nothing in return. Then when I ask them for a little bit of help sometimes they just disappear. That is sad that you helped he many times, and now she complaint about you asking her once, or twice. Honestly even family cannot be trusted at times. It is people who claim they love you the most like family who often are the ones to hurt you.

my family was toxic and abusive from the get go. As if that wasn't enough they dragged me from the stable and working central Europe to the region far away from it, where people are fleeing from when i was just 15 years old!

I spent the next 12 years doing nothing but escaping, surviving and not dying from starvation or diseases and protecting myself.

Talk about trusting your family. I had strangers being kinder to me.

Well, suppose she really doesn't have money, she could have said I don't have it right now. Instead of gossiping about you.
And it also makes a difference who has given more money till now, you or her.
If you have given more and she hasn't, then it's clear. throw this relation away and don't look back, as if they never existed.

It doesn’t mean family = saints. One of my greatest eye openers was moving out and actually making friends and working in the real world. Then it became painfully obvious why my mom and dad outright banned friendships and relationships when I was a child. They didn’t want me to see that their “normal” wasn’t normal

Family is not inherently any more trustworthy than any other group of people. Some families are good, some are bad, and you should not assume someone can't be a bad person just because you happen to be related to them.

My experience only if you're having sex with them. Never did trust my cousin she's adopted I'm adopted she's younger with a daddy fetish but close enough she totally different around me now she just wanted to know that I'd f*** her if she wanted

It depends on the family. I trust my immediate family but I have a few aunts and uncles that my parents don’t trust anymore.
