You know the friend I'm talking about, right? The one you'd rather not be around if you can help it, but you're forced to be around them because they are the friend of a friend? Do you have a friend like that?

I used to. There was a guy who got really obsessed with me in high school and college. Even though I tried getting rid of him, my other friends and even my brother would continue inviting the guy around.

When I say "obsessed" I mean it. The guy legitimately tried to live my life and become me. It was super creepy. It was only after the dude started doing shit like spiking people's drinks and getting locked up for drunken disorderlies that the others started to not want him around.

It really was; that guy was a straight up parasite. In hindsight, I can't even blame my other friends for not taking my side in the situation because it was so bizarre. Heck I probably would have done the same.

If you knew me in person, you would think I was insane if I told you that someone had literally forced their way into my life and tried to become me. In fact, I, myself spent most of those years trying to find some other explanation for what was going on because I couldn't logically compute what was happening. I'm just such a normal person. Why would someone even do that? But they did.

I used to not believe it when I would hear women talking about how some guy would do unhinged stuff like move across the country just to be with them, but I totally get it now.

Both times the same friend brought them around like collecting strays


The first eventually got all kinds of creepy with his sister so we all cut him off (we were a friend group of like 15 guys)


The second one was worse


But in the end he got into a fight with me and my brother so gave him a long overdue beating and never saw him again


Im still friends with the guy who collected them and to this day he still asks for my opinion on anyone he meets because he knows Im a better judge of character when it comes to making “friends”

Nah there was a girl like that who was in our group but was always rude to me and would hit me in my arm and stuff like it was a joke but I knew she didn't like me so anytime she came around I would ditch the group until they finally stopped hanging out with her lol. I would never be friends with someone I don't like I just don't have patience for it. I rather be alone then have to hangout with someone I can't stand.

I think every group has that one person in their life. We had a friend that stopped going to school... and didn't work, everytime we went out and bought bottles or drinks, he would never put in. This guy actually got married by his parents ( arranged marriage) and annuled it two days later... and collected money from the wedding.

When I was studying this was really meant for work colleagues, but still applies to the situation you have quoted. And it was this:- They won't go away, so make the most of what you have available to you. And I think that's good advice !

These days I really do not have many friends but when I was younger thee were a couple of guys I really did not like much but put up with them because we all grew up in the same neighborhood.

I dunno. Could be anything. For me they just weren't interesting to be around and had nothing really in common with me. Still they were part of the "friend group" so I had to be around them often.

Our mutual friend organised a trip to Skye, then dropped out. We went anyway and, to be fair, it was OK. We nearly killed ourselves, but that's another story. I have no idea what happened to him.
