Yes, though sometimes such an issue can tear a friendship apart. I had/have a friend who I've been friends with since grade school. You know how it is when you get to jr./Sr. High people join there little cliques. We stayed friends though many of his other friends were not mine and many of his didn't approve of me. Fast forward to college he goes to a different college than me and meets the woman who'll be his future wife. We still connected during the summers but our lives were clearly headed in different directions which happens as you age. Well years. earlier I joined an organization that had an event on the same day as his wedding which I was invited to. So I had a choice to make. Go to the event with my current friends. Or go to his wedding and be sneered at by all his friends. Well the only reason to go to his wedding was because he's my friend. I knew I wouldn't enjoy it so I chose the event instead. Here we are 25 years later and he still won't talk to me for missing his wedding. I feel bad. Yes what I did was selfish. But I didn't think he would take it so personal. And I don't think he's even trying to understand my position of why I didn't go.
generally speaking yes... I can be friends with someone that is friends with someone that I am not so fond on, then again... I cannot really think of a person I dislike ( I certainly don't hate anybody) because if I just don't get along with someone I just keep my distance and we just don't engage much, I'm more like neutral to that kind of people
for example... two of my best friends who are dudes, they do hang out with certain people I do not get along with... so I just keep my distance from them and when they're all doing something together I just let them be, so it doesn't really affect me what they have going on... I just focus on our own stuff when we're hanging out
now, when someone tries to mess with me or get really annoying, I cut off that shit right away then it rarely happens again and same result I do not end up disliking people I just keep away
I think it would depend on what the person had done to me and why I consider them an enemy in the first place. And also if my friend KNEW what they’d done to me etc. If it was really bad and my friend befriended them then no I wouldn’t trust them and would cut them off too.
If someone has really done something to push you to call them an enemy your real friends should respect your feelings and leave them be. A true friend always puts your welfare ahead of his or hers. So a person who is friends with your enemy cannot be a true friend. Therefore I would never be friends with someone who is friends with my enemy.
All trust is gone. We can be cool, hi and bye friends, but no I won't trust my friend. Bye Felicia 👋 call me petty and immature. I don't care. I need to protect my peace.
It actually all depends if they get influenced by them too then sorry I won't. If they kee me before my enemy then it's all safe as I won't be backstabbed but they also need to be that worthy to become my friend in that case. If my enemy is using my friend then I will help her out. I won't let my enemy backstab my friend too. I won't be friend with them in these cases only-
1. If they get heavily influenced.
2. If they keep my enemy before me.
However no matter what I will give second thoughts in it.

Yeah 100% it is I think fairly common.
i know social and working wise, I’ve friends who I really can’t stand their friend or even friends.
My family was sort of like that, on one side it was Irish Catholic and the other a bunch of us (cousins) served in the military. This resulted in being friends with relations but complete enemies of their friends (IRA).
Even now, I have friends where I seriously and violently do not like some of their friends, I am usually cordial unless they piss me off, which has happened big time in the past.
Yes, and that's rather common in my case. My friends and I all hang out in relatively large groups forming our own little community, and frequently hang out in fairly large numbers at once (10+ people on a weekend, e. g.). We're tight-knit but we are a fairly large group and one that tends to expand rapidly as people start introducing new ones to the group. So there are bound to be some people in that group that some people don't like and get along so well with, but we don't hold that against anyone else in the group.
There used to be one guy in our group that really bothered me when we were younger. One of my best friends introduced him to the group. The thing is that he would try to hit on all the women in our group, including my now-wife back when we were just dating.
But I don't mind a flirt. He wasn't a flirt. He's one of those guys who give sob stories to women saying he's so lonely, putting his head on their shoulder, things like that... a very pathetic and desperate type of way to appeal to girls. So I found that kind of gross and pathetic and many women in our group did as well. Thankfully, he finally stopped doing that when he got married. He's become way better actually even in terms of how he carries himself.
Yes absolutely! I guess it this reminds me of that (early) elementary school thing where someone says “Chloe and Samantha are fighting. Who’s side are you on? And if you say the wrong name… Well I'm not your friend anymore! I figure that if my friends are fighting, and I love them both, I have the the perfect opportunity to find common ground, and patch things up between them!
you're like the diffuser of heated situations it seems
Awww 🥰 well I wouldn’t make a good psychologist if I wasn’t a natural Peace Maker. I just want good mental health and well-being for everyone, and I don’t care how many women and children I have to kill to get it! LOL 😂
Haha you’re good babe. You got a heck of a road ahead of you. 😘
Thank you! After I read “Anatomy of An Illness” I understood how important a good sense of humor was to patient healing! All of my patients need to have a good sense of humor, especially once the see my hourly rate I'm charging them on the bill! LOL 😂
Haha reminds me of the robin Williams movie Patch Adams. Similar concept
Yes! That was actually a true story, and in real life Dr. Adams applied the principals of Norman Cousins, (The author of “Anatomy of An Illness”) along with his own unique theories, and the rest is history!
I can be friends with that person. As long as my friend is not forcing me to hang out with the person I dislike or trying to convince me to like that person then we're good. I don't want to be dragged into any arguments and end up having to choose sides. I wouldn't want to spend any time around the person I dislike. I also want our hangouts to be one-on-one or at least with other people I can tolerate.
understandable
I wouldn't make them choose, but if they know someone fucked me over or made my life hell or just isn't a good person and they continue to be friends with them, then I just cut myself out that friendship. It sounds petty but I know better from experience that it's not worth it. I need friends that have my best interests at heart.
Its very hard to be bestfriends with someone who is close with someone you don't have a good relationship with. I mean I can do it absolutely! But I wouldn't like it much lol. I would have to tell my friend to just stop talking about the person to me-
Yes of course. If I dislike/ have a problem with someone then that’s my business. They’re free to do what they want. Only exception to that would be a case where if they hung out with that person everyday and mentioned them all the time.. just might make things awkward but still that’s up to them
If it's someone I just don't like or don't get along with, that's fine as long as they don't try to push the issue/try to get you to like or hang out with that person. But if it's someone that betrayed me or really hurt me, I would have an issue with that
There’s one person that I will always hold a grudge against, and I’ve avoided people who are friends with her, even if they’re nice people. She is my one exception. Someone who’s friends with anyone else that I dislike, I don’t mind.
ohh damn.. is it ok if i ask about her? or you'd rather not say?
I was friends with her on & off throughout highschool. She used me for drugs, money, manipulated me into buying her baby new clothes and formula when it was born, she consistently went after my exes and slept with them to rub it in my face, and a few of my exes also cheated on me with her because she’d relentlessly chase after them if she knew I loved them. Then one day she packed up all her shit and moved across the country without telling anyone and I never saw or heard from her again until a month ago, I was told by a stranger that she was going around on Fetlife (a site that me and her use) and telling total strangers how awful I treated her and that I ruined her life. She was playing the victim card to manipulate even more people.
icky wow.
I can if it’s someone I dislike. If it’s someone I hate…. It takes a lot to get to that point. That person would have to really go out of their way to try to get me or destroy me in the most evil way so I think it would be kinda hard for me to be friends with someone who was friends with someone that did that to me. It would always be In the back of my mind if I could trust being vulnerable around the person and them not mention something to the other person.
It depends on the situation.
If it is a person who did extremely bad things to me, then no. A true friend will never be friend with someone who has hurt their friends really bad.
If it is just a person that I do not like that much for random reasons (no chemistry, different opinions, etc), so yes, there is nothing wrong about my friend being their friend.
I can. I'm not selfish. I won't ask or give someone an ultimatum to chose a side. However, I might be weary about him or her playing "double agent" to both sides.
it would be mean to make somebody pick a side
so thats why like half my friends are friends with the people i dont like much
They're the best people to befriend, they give you intel on your enemies.
True lol
Yes of course, my feelings about another person wouldn't affect a friendship with someone.
No but I will let the other person know that in order to be friends with me they should cut them off
Interesting question. I wouldn't as it would bother me all the time. How can you be friends with someone who discusses/hangs out with your enemy?
Yes i can be friends with a person who is friends with someone i dislike
Of course I can, not my place to judge who someone is friends with.
It is actually more tough, as I keep picturing them together…cavorting, having fun…bastards.
You’re really working out some issues on GaG today.
No. My friend options aren't that limited
lucky you
They always get unfairly influenced.
how so? example?
Hmmm.. how to put this. It probably won’t even come out correctly, bit exhausted today. The in-between person turns from their usual warm and accepting self to cold and robotic. Which means they’ve had an earful of incorrect info but probably too sweet to ask or “interfere” further. If people are going to accept something said without asking both sides they aren’t worth the time either. Nobody could work with that. Men are far less likely to behave this way than woman, in my experience.
I just can't. No way. 💯
I feel like I’d avoid them
I have there situations.
sorry. I meant ''yes''.
Of course.!
Yes..
Of course
Yes absolutely I am
Yeah
