Is it a bad idea to act friendly to someone you strongly dislike?

I really hate my roommate, but I act friendly torwards them so they'll think I like them, and there won't be conflict.

Yeah, of course that's a bad idea. You aren't avoiding conflict by pretending to like someone, you're just worsening future conflict.

You don't have to be rude and unpleasant with the person, but you shouldn't act like you're buddies with them.
