Tell me one good thing and one bad thing concerning the relationship you have with your own father?

Doesn't exist... even when in contact, the most he said to me is that his wife put him through hell. I know my mom (not his wife) got $600/month out of him and I'm sure my half brothers and sisters of 6 learned that was a thorn in their side. It was it me though it was just my Mom doing what she did with my other sisters dads.

The good thing is that he tries his best to be a good parent
Points for effort are the main theme for him


Worst thing is he didn’t have a good upbringing and has no idea how to be a parent so his own trauma gets through sometimes and affects his behavior with me and my brother

I think that's the case with most fathers. There's no guide to being a perfect parent and sometimes all they can do is teach us what they learnt and it doesn't always come out the best way. I understand you though because I feel the same about my own father.

I suppose it’s something only parents will understand and I am not one at this stage of my life

But I do know if I ever have kids I won’t raise them randomly and with neglect
I would want to be a true guide and mentor that creates an amazing person

And to be fair: we are all the results of our upbringing.
And if I look in the mirror I can say “my parents succeeded a lot more than they failed”

It's up to us to break old patterns which in this case is that of our fathers. It takes a lot of work because you first need to acknowledge certain things, become aware of them and change your way of thinking so you don't make their same mistakes and it's what I have been doing in past years and will continue to do so that if and when the next generation comes round for me I break the pattern. So we're on the same page where this is concerned.

Best thing - He is the best Father!..

Worst thing - He is a Bad Husband, which is relative. Because the way I See it he is a good husband too, it's just my mother perception and her mind games aren't something he can keep up with or play along..

Which is because he is a good person, but that makes him an incompetent partner to my mother, hence him being a bad husband.

Good - He made a lot of great food growing up that I miss.

Bad - He separated from my mom when I was around 11 years old and completely cut ties from us pretty recently.
