It totally depends on what you mean by "romantically shocking." I guess it would also depend on how close I was to the particular family member.

My cousin, who in fact was always my favorite cousin. He met and married a phenomenal woman. I literally had to stop myself from continuing to express my ongoing disbelief that he was with her. He did something... shocking within his relationship. Did and said things that scared the shit out of his wife and his kids, and got himself arrested.

It made me lose all respect for the guy. He's still family to a point. But I can't ever see him the same. I did not confront him. Because... what can I even say. It's also complicated by the fact that I am not officially supposed to know. I didn't get a call for bail (although that's reasonable enough, we aren't THAT close). His wife, especially, is worried about anybody judging. Even family.

If I thought my confronting them would help in any way, I would. (in the case of my cousin, or in general).

When it comes to something like "who someone is dating." It would take a lot for me to say something. I would have to think the person was obviously harmful to that family member. They would have to seem like a danger for me to say something about who anyone dated.
