Is it more to being a good mother than just taking your kids to fun places and making sure they’re clothed and fed?

I think so. Kids need affection and know that they are loved and wanted by their moms. My mom gave us kids a lot of affection and spent time with each of us alone. Like she would take one of us out once a month take us to lunch and let us get 1 outfit. By spending all day with each of us individually it made each of us feel special as individually. If something was bothering us we could talk to her about it and no matter what it was we always knew she would always love us no matter what. She saw us as individuals and didn't compare us too each other. I'm the oldest, then my brother and younger sister.

Yes, you need to teach them how to interact with people productively. Introduce them to your friends, and tell them how to behave when they meet a new person. Answer their questions. Protect them from dangerous situations without screaming "NO" twenty times a day. Invite them to help you with the basic skills they will need as an adult -- cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc. and reward their effort.

Hmmm good point. I guess we should see our children as humans growing in a world like we once were and not little people incapable of taking care of themselves so we “have” to do it. Intentions do matter. Do you intend to be a “as long as they’re taken care of” parent or a “I genuinely love my kid (s) and treat them as such.” Kind of parent
