What do your parents say about you?

I’m the good son
The example by which everyone else gets measured
They would happily brag about me to anyone who asks

And yet sometimes it does feel like they would dismiss anything I have to say when I’m not there

And my whole life, ever since I was a small child, whenever I would warn them of something it eventually came to pass

But somehow they still manage to doubt me because admitting I’m the responsible adult with knowledge and foresight would somehow be admitting that they’re old (which isn’t true)

I think that, as with every parent, they wanted the best for me and gave me all the options so I could choose. They never steered me in any given direction. They supported my decision to study something completely different, when the logical choice would have been to follow the steps my father took and take over the business.

They supported me when I decided to move away at an early age, although it was a bold move and at times a tough decision. They knew somehow that I would be OK. I have always been quite independent anyway. They gave me the freedom to explore my own path.

What would they say? I suppose they'd say I was successful in everything I undertook.

As a father, I now aim to instill the same sense of freedom of choice with our daughter. You can only go part of the way guiding them along the path you think is right for them.

I never felt they thought about me longer than a second. My dad raised me like a boy until he realized I'm a girl and then he started to complained I walk around like a prostitute. My mother had a ton of problems with her gigantic ego and alcohol consumption, there was no time to think about me. Therefore her opinion about me was very incoherent and incredible and varied from best imaginable daughter to worst ruthless monster.

I don't really know what my father thinks about me today, I'm surely useful for him. My mother dines in Valhalla.

they weren't really involved in my life probably because of their way of teaching me about responsibility and consequences... :D

these days, my father says I'm myself and my mom and his efforts into making me someone they wanted me to be didn't work at all... but he seems satisfied with what my siblings and I achieved, even if we did everything our way :D

My parents speak nothing but good about my brother and I. My parents always say they’re very happy how we turned out. I’m extremely close with my parents.
At family gatherings or work functions, people are always complaining about their kids or husbands and my mom is the only one who can’t say anything bad about her kids or her husband, she’s just that happy.

Mostly negative stuff honestly. As much as I love my mom and appreciate everything she's done for me, my opinions are usually dismissed as nonsense or uneducated. I think I've honestly developed a need to have my opinions validated because of it. Because I never really received it.

It's sad that the majority of people only listen to others that are successful in life.
