If my child was feeling down in the dumps about something saying, “I never asked to be born” I would show them love, comfort, support, and let them know “everything is going to be okay”. As their parent your job is to show them unconditional love, a never ending wave of support, and a place they truly can call “home”. Reassurance, a gentle kind touch, and comfort is what is needed.

I have to admit, I don’t know what I would say though I do know this is what I would want, for them to feel good and happy would make me good and happy knowing I did my best as a parent by just being myself.

I have felt that way from time to time, I don’t want anyone in general to feel that way. I want to comfort them the way I would want myself to be comforted then work from there.

I have heard that from suicidal people. I've thought it myself. And it does not come from a place of hating the parent necessarily, it's more from a place of self-hate and loathing; it's only directed at the parent because I guess technically you are the reason they're alive and going through what they are.

My immediate response? Being Devastated.

Because she was right, because this world isn't a safe world at all. Because she didn't choose that, yes. However it is a statement and a response, in a set time. No one lives, trapped, in a frozen moment of life. We fluctuate, hopefully.

To be fair if my kid is saying that my role as a parent is to be there for them and help them tackle whatever is making them not want life. My role is absolutely not to deliver some snappy comeback.

I said that to my mum a couple times as a kid. Usually when taking heat for someone else. She always had a great line back. My mind is mush this week and those files are locked.
I would probably say "No. It was great sex though. Molten moment to all forms of birth control."
