It depends on the illness.
If it diminishes their mental capacity to the point where they are impaired, then I would not. It just doesn't feel like it would be appropriate
If it was just a behavioral illness, but they are otherwise of sound mind, then I don't see why not. Hell, I technically have a mental illness, and I still function & act perfectly fine.
Honestly, I would likely not, but it depends on the severity of it and what type of disorder it is. As long as it will not get in the way of you being a good parent, then we are golden 👍
depends on the disorder (s)
i have some, my parents, and both of their sides of the family have a history of it, so i dont wanna increase the odds lol
I see. That's my fear too, passing it on. Mind if I ask you what yours are?
i have PTSD, so its stuff thats comorbid with it. MDD, GAD, OCD, and anorexia nervosa. ik bipolar runs in my family, but i didn't get that thankfully lol
what about you
Christ! That's horrible. :/ So which ones would you breed with?
OCD I know for sure (it's pretty bad). I'm also certain I have ADHD and am on the spectrum, though I've never been tested for anything.
The rest are purely speculation, but I do get anxious/paranoid and I have a lot triggers. Depression that comes and goes.
Do yours effect your relationships?
My ex was bipolar and it was absolute hell for me.
it's okay, i was diagnosed a while ago, so i dont really think about those labels.
probably any psychotic/personality disorder, but really it just depends on the person and that sucks. bipolar can definitely be A LOT, and did you get diagnosed? ERP helped my OCD. a lot
and it impacts my relationships a fuckton, altho i've worked on it a lot over the years
I would considering I have a mental illness.
What's your illness, if you don't mind?
Schizophrenia
Seriously? 😮
So you wouldn't be afraid of passing it on to your child?
How bad is it? Like what does it make you do? Has it effected your dating life?
Yeah I am a bit scared I would but it skipped my grandmother and mother. My great grandmother had it so they may be lucky and it skips them too.
No I take meds for it and I am pretty normal now
It hasn't affected my dating life at all
So it didn't come from your father's side?
Oh, I didn't realize you could mitigate it with meds.
Do you have a partner?
I did for over a year but my depression sort of ended that last year and I have been dating but it's been hard to get over the guy I was with for over a year.
Damn, I'm sorry :(
What were your symptoms? I'm trying to figure out if someone I know has it
Its okay. Thank you.
It was hearing voices and paranoia where I thought people could hear my thoughts.
Oh damn. I'VE experienced that honestly. Hearing voices, a lot. The thoughts thing, not neccessarily that they could HEAR them, but sometimes that certain people know things about me through psychic powers. I never thought I have it though as it's symptoms are also found in other issues. But I've long suspected someone I know has it, that's partially why I asked this question, because the person wants to have kids someday.
No but I swear that my mom and people at work seem to know things about me that they shouldn't and it freaks me out
Oh wow. Then they may need to see a psychiatrist and get on medication. I think it's fine to have kids with it and if they may have it, they can always get on medicine for it.
Yeah that's how I was for a long time.
Sometimes I still do
If they have it, they're probably unaware. But they contradict themselves a lot and showed signs of persecutorial delusion and other delusions.
If I'm honest, I'm pretty sure I have a mental ilness myself, I just don't know what. I've never been tested for one. I'm certain I have ADHD and autism/aspergers, but I might have something else too. I get paranoid about stuff and have a lot of triggers and there"s other stuff that's hard to explain. I for sure have OCD.
I wasn't expecting to actually find someone with one when I asked this.
I'm curious who you are.
We could chat in PM too, but I understand if you wanna stay anonymous, but I'm kind of curious
I'd rather stay anonymous. I'm sorry. But I will say definitely see if you can see a psychiatrist and see if that person you know with symptoms can as well to get properly diagnosed. It sounds like you both might have it which can become worse over time if it's not taken care of.
Yeah, I'd like to have children too. And yeah, I feel like every year I'm getting worse
I don't think the other person will and I'm scared, mainly because of my mom, but others too. It won't stay secret and It's not exactly the kind of label you want to have. But I'm definitely not normal.
I wouldn't reveal you, but I understand. I appreciate you answering my questions regardless
It's definitely not the kind of label you want to have but medication will help tons. I've been on it for over 3 years and it's like I'm a normal person again. No one would suspect that I have it.
You're welcome by the way. Glad I could help!
When were you diognosed with it?
2021.
Oh wow! So not that long ago. You just decided to get tested?
Nope I checked myself into a hospital because the voices had become too much and I was suicidal at that point. The doctors then diagnosed me with Schizophrenia and put me on medication.
Oh my God! That is horrible! I'm so sorry
It's okay now. Thank you.
