Burying a family member up to their neck in sand is a common bit of fun at the beach. Usually they volunteer but sometimes it happens when they're having a snooze.

Please don’t ever do that. A girl died after a sand hole she was digging with her brother collapsed on her at a Florida beach. The incident occurred in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, north of Miami. The girl was completely submerged and died after being pulled from the sand.
The incident highlights the dangers of sand holes, even when seemingly small. The sand can become compacted and heavy, trapping people inside and leading to suffocation. In this case, the girl was fully buried, while her brother was buried up to his chest.

One time I buried myself on the beach for a bit of craic. I must've fell asleep at some point because I woke up to a family dialling 999 and bunch of weird florescently dressed people running towards me.
Some things don't stay buried!
