Would it be out of line for my mom to ask the liquor store my aunt frequents if she's buying alcohol?

My aunt has walking issues. Her doctor said its from a life time of alcohol abuse. she's been slurring her words real bad, and has been stumbling after a month of acting normal. I suspect she's drinking again. I told my mom, and she said she knows the lady who usually sells to my aunt and she is gonna ask her if my aunt has been in to buy liquor within the past couple of days. Would that be a bad move?
