I’m very disappointed to learn that my family talk behind my back should I stop talking to them?

One of my first cousins texted her daughter to ask her if I was talking enough or was it awkward when she met up with me for a weekend trip I felt quite hurt and sad that she thinks of me this way. These aren’t normally family I see a lot as they live in other country but still it was a bit sad

You’d be really naive to think that NO ONE ever talks about you behind your back. Folks talk about common people in their lives. It’s just natural. As long as the intention isn’t malicious, you’ll be fine.

I say this bc one time a person I respected SO MUCH called to yell at me for “talking about her” but I was complimenting her to someone who would have bought ALL of her handmade products on the spot and was not saying anything more than “___ is AMAZING and all her work is very high quality.” But she was upset, so since then I never looked at or mentioned that psycho again.

I felt like I was clashing with her toward the end she acts like a no it all, boasting about her salary and not much in common but we didn’t see each other for 7 years and she was wanting to visit me not me really

Unfortunately, that’s just how life is. Someone will ALWAYS talk about you.. They didn’t say it to your face which tells me that it’s either they were genuinely interested in knowing if you were okay, had a good time, felt comfortable, etc… or they were afraid of what you might say or do.. (some people just automatically assume the worst) it’s best to not get into your head about these things.


I would just let it go, if they really wanted to they would talk to you directly about it. Don’t worry too much.

All family talk behind your back this is a fact.. Even my mom and sister talk about me behind my back and vise versa.. It really isn't that serious.
