College students that also work, how do you manage work and school so you can enjoy your weekends?

Somebody told me to say goodbye to my weekends because I’m gonna be super busy but I don’t think that’s any excuse because I like enjoying my weekend and I don’t want my friends and family to think homework is the only excuse to not hang out all the time. The last three weekends I stayed back and did homework, but before all that oh I hung out with friends and went clubbing.

I worked from 6:30 am until 5:30 pm and when I got home I did school work until 10:30 every night. I spent all day Saturdays and half of Sundays doing school work. 18 to 21 units per semester while working for 2 1/2 years to complete a teaching degree and pass the content exams for a credential. I paid my own way through school, no loans at all. I sacrificed a lot to get through it. I don't know anyone else IRL that has ever worked as hard as me during that time.

Because of that, I don't feel sorry for anyone. If they are poor, or think they work too hard and are tired, too F'ing bad. They are just lazy and lack self discipline.

I worked and went to school for years. Both as a full time student and later while I worked full time and went to college at night. Weekends were spent at the library studying.

My dad worked 90hrs a week during the summer while in college. He graduated with zero debts. Times were different back in the 70's.

I worked my way through college and enjoying weekends was just not an option.
