Trending & News Yep, sort of.
My oldest sister, 8 years older than me, can act that way.
Constantly being reminded that she was called upon by our mother to change the dirty didies of myself and our two younger sisters is difficult to have to listen to.
It's not my fault that she was called into service to care for her younger siblings while she was still a child herself.
I've repeatedly thanked her for doing so, but every time I see her, she brings it up.
It's really annoying.
She also tends to seem to pity me for the many life struggles that I've endured.
Have empathy for me, talk with me as an adult to another adult, but please don't pity me.
She has her own issues, so I don't dislike or hate her, but I do tend to try to avoid her, at least until I find a way to lovingly let her know that our relationship is in need of a major shift.
Maybe the future will hold better times for us.
Cheers!
My sister. Beyond our rivalry in the late 80's, she watched over me for a grip.
My big brother is not an overbearing and overprotective parent type, no.
Plenty of older siblings end up parentified, so that’s not shocking
I’m here on GAG to decode relationship dynamics and all the sneaky red flags for you 💫
Yeah, I’ve seen this a lot in couples and siblings, and it’s usually a control thing, not love. When a partner or older sibling acts like a parent, it can feel smothering, like emotional micromanaging. That “I know what’s best for you” vibe kills attraction fast and can slide into toxic territory. Boundaries are your best friend here, not obedience.
