So I find myself in a new situation.
I moved to a new town two hours away for a new job.
I moved into an apartment by myself, no roomate.
I’m living by myself and I knew absolutely nobody in town a month ago either.
Either way, I have some optimism/concerns
The town I’m in isn’t the most exciting, but I seem to be making do.
I’ve found a church group that meets every week, and I’m learning more about bars and social events at bars in my area (trivia, bingo, etc)
I’ve become friendly with some coworkers
There seem to be at least a few options around.
I even found out about this place that has video game and arcade game nights regularly every week.
I haven’t been to any yet tho.
Anyway, what I’ve found is it seems to be pertinent on you if you want to make friends
It seems to require forcing yourself to go out even when you feel you’d rather just flop on bed when you get home
So I’ve been trying to force myself to go out as often as I can find something
I try to make an effort as much as possible. But realistically sometimes I haven’t planned far enough in advance for certain things tho
Either way I still seem to be in the “figuring things out” stage but I feel as though I might’ve found a viable pathway.
1) Church group on Wednesday
2) Bar social events 1-2 days a week
3) Monitor facebook for events
And I’m exploring the possibility of joining a boxing gym and starting latin dance as well
The only thing tho is I do feel a tad bit nervous about both
Boxing because I never done it before (but I’ve always felt curious) and dancing because it seems like a possible way to meet women (though I’m unsure whether or not its actually just woke white people, married and predominantly older couples who go)
Either way tho, do you figure its still probably in my best interest to try both?
I’ve tried dating apps but kinda seems like a waste of time tbh.
But yeah part of me would also like to build a solid circle of guy friends as well.
What would you recommend I do?
I just kinda feel as though I sorta have an idea but I’m still new to this whole process and kinda spinning my wheels.
Just wondering if anybody else here has been in a similar situation befor

You seem to have plenty of ideas. I don't even have the excuse of being new to town. I'm in a place I've lived for years but was in a relationship and let my whole life revolve around him for 3 years so I didn't bother with anyone else besides my family and now that it didn't work out, I am more or less starting over in the friends department. I try to want to hang out with co-workers and I'm living with one at the moment but they're ok to talk to but not my kinda people. I'm not religious and I don't drink so church groups and bars aren't for me. I tried a bowling league. It's totally not serious, but I think that's been a flop. I don't want to be in a serious one because it's mostly older people or serious bowlers who are largely awkward but this league is so unserious it's all for heavy drinkers and weed smokers, another thing I don't do. They're fun to see once a week and can be entertaining but not people I'd hang out with outside of that. Never done apps though I'm not quite ready to find a new guy yet. The bar trivia thing seems like an idea but I expect everyone shows up in their groups already and just showing up and asking to sit with a random group of friends probably is weird. You're obviously willing to make an effort so it'll happen if it hasn't yet. Work is often best to meet people I find because you're forced to get to know those people whether you want to or not...
Anyway, your plan seems like it'll work even if it takes some time
Yeah, about the trivia thing tho I sorta have to scratch that one off the list. It ended up being pretty boring and it sorta was exactly like what you described. XD
I figured, I went to a few of those years ago when I had more friends and we would do them on our own sometimes but they're married and have kids now and as far as being friends, they may as well have died. I'll probably be in the living alone situation later in the year some time and I am dreading that possibility so hopefully I manage to make a friend who needs a roommate some time before that. I'll become depressed doing that pretty quick.
If you’re just seeking friendships you could try posting on the neighborhood app. I didn’t know that was a thing, I have only ever used the app to keep up with whatever’s going on around me. But since like 2021-22 I have seen an influx in posts from people who are either new in town or just wanna make some new friends and they’ll actually get several responses.
As for the women, I would still mention what I suggested the other day. I mean I could suggest you pick up some hobbies as to get yourself out there, but if you are only looking for hookups right now it’s hard for me to imagine you eventually having that conversation with a girl you’ve met in person. At least online if she were to turn that arrangement down you could just delete the conversation, potentially block and just keep swiping. IRL you run the risk of seeing her regularly whether it’s in the class, at the bar, etc.
I totally get what you mean and to be 100 I’m not really bold like that either. Like I get that realistically it is going to take some time to get there and for them to be comfortable enough and stuff and I respect that.
Do you feel open to actually dating someone? I think it would give you more options, less trouble.
I certainly am but I wouldn’t say I feel as though I’m in any kind of rush to get in a relationship either though. If it happens it happens
A sport group is good, a hobby group is good. Colleagues you can go to the movies or bowling with are always a plus. The church I have no experience with.
