Apparently it’s a hot girl’s birthday today… so naturally I had to ask a question in her honor 😌

It made me think about how everyone celebrates differently…

big, small, quiet, or full of people…

and how all of those can feel special in their own way.

So I’m curious…

what actually makes a birthday feel special to you?

@abbycado Happy Birthday Girly! I have had many grand birthdays with many people but my 17th Birthday with only my parents and my sister made me cry happy tears (and I never had happy tears before that and even till now) because I realised that they're going to be with me no matter our differences. Others will come and go but my family, our group of 4 will always stay united. From that birthday, realising the love my family has for me will continue to make the rest of the birthdays in my life more special.

@abbycado Happy 21st (sorry for being late, didn’t see until now). Hot girl energy wooo! Okay to answer the question,  Tradition is one way that makes birthdays special. Whether it is the people you find comfort celebrating closest to you, the type of cake or rituals associated, or doing something fun you used to do when you were younger. Ice cream cake is one of mine. What makes my birthday special to me, is all the wonderful wishes that come my way and brings friends / family together to send me wishes which gives us an excuse to keep in touch. Same goes for the other way around, nice to send wishes and let them know how much they mean to you still.  Happy Birthday (to those it applies to), Happy Birthday again @abbycado have a fun blast of a time…. Or at least I hope you did since I am late to this question.

I've been the forgotten child and the forgotten friend for most of my life, where if anything is going to be some for my birthday it's only because I actively planned it. As such, I struggle with accepting attention on my birthday (I'm getting better though it being later this week has my anxiety up a bit) but what makes me feel special is people reaching out with personal message of love, support and encouragement (not the trite public social media happy birthdays) and people going out of there way to plan and do something specifically for me.

My 21st was my last. My homie hooked it up! Lap dances? Check. Booze? Yup. A bar that you could bring your drinks outside and sit down at a patio? Totally! It was also very rare that a night in mid January was about 60 degrees instead of usually in the negatives with 2 feet of snow.

Honestly? I hardly remember my own birthday. So I can’t really hold anyone else responsible, LOL.

I’ll usually plan a solo backpacking trip around my birthday and go up into the mountains for a week. Solitude and reflection on my life, the last year, and goals for the coming year. It’s constructive and peaceful but hard on the body.
