Is it normal not to love your parents even later in life?

I'm 60 now

I was always told when you have your own children, when your older you'll begin to see things from their perspective, you'll love them

I still can't say I really love them

I think people change their opinion of their parents. I suppose if your parents were abusive it might make it hard to love them but if they were loving parents it is hard to imagine.

Maybe they were "old school"
Children were not front and centre
They were expected to succeed
And that was all
When I say succeed I mean
Education
Career
Spouse
Children

Without much thought to the person

I don't think it is abnormal. I adore one of my parents; the other not so much.

There's no shame in that. You don't get to pick your family members. I've just been lucky in my case to get along with my own family.

It's hard to summarize
My siblings seem to be closer to my Dad
My mother passed away 6 years ago
I can't say I love either of my parents. I always felt I was a project they wanted to succeed.
Maybe I'm ungrateful
I accept that did their best for a person to be successful
My point is, did they care for the person who is me?
Or maybe I'm being too sensitive.
