Is it really bad to live with one's parents as an adult?

I think outside the Western world it is expected that adults should live with their parents, even after marriage. The West is the only place where it is considered as bad. I am from India and I tried to leave home and live on my own and my family was furious. Because I am so affected by Western media and online content from the West I was subconsciously ashamed that I live with my parents and they still cook and clean for me. If we leave home we are seen as being irresponsible and selfish.

you can still live with them (IF YOU WANT) but you should really be able to do your own cooking and cleaning... that's the weird thing. they are not setting you up for success at all there.

They don't let me do it. You wouldn't understand, it's our culture. I only do it myself when my mother isn't there. I can't fight against my cultural norms in order to conform to Western standards of what is right or wrong. Thing is I actually don't want to live with them, but I just can't leave without making everyone angry and upset. I have enough money to get my own apartment. I bought a car for the family as well.

i actually do understand. was gaslit most of my life and every time i would leave to go live my life i would make my mom very angry and upset. so many texts and phone calls to the point where i'd have a panic attack. so yeah i do understand. do you just expect to not be happy with life forever? you can't make everyone happy... the most important person to make happy here is yourself. you have a decision to make.

if you working in life life towards bettering it and doing adult shit then no. you save lots of money

now if you got no job and they doin everything for you then yeah bc you gotta experience that stuff

Yes, I moved back in with my mother before I got married. I wanted to save money to buy a house. She really drove me crazy. It was a tough year

Exactly, they are always telling me what to do and have no gratitude for the things I do for them. But if I leave them and get my own place people will say I am selfish and inconsiderate. I was living in a hostel for a while but it was terrible value for money.

No. It's very understandable in my opinion to live with your parents unless you are married or have to move for a job.

It’s ok to still live at home, but as an adult you should be cooking and cleaning and contributing
