If you were born 1997–2003, do you feel more Gen Z or millennial?

Please mention the year that you were born in, and whether you identify as Gen Z or as a Millennial.

Personally, I was born in 2001, but I feel like I relate more to Millennials than to Gen Z. And all of my friends, born 2000-2002 feel the same way, because we were all raised without much access to the internet or to smartphones, until the age of 11-12, and we got a good taste of the old internet when we first got online. Meanwhile, we all feel like those born after 2004, and who got access to smartphones or tablets from the age of 5-6, are sooo much more different from us in all aspects of life, and me and my friends would consider Gen Z starting from 2004-2005, and definitely not from 1997, how it says on Google...

How do you feel about this? What generation are you and do you feel like you fit into your generation, or do you relate more to another one?

I was born during the first half of the decade and if I want to be honest, I feel more generation babyboomer than the 2 ones you are referring to. Why?

Because during the 50s to the early 70s, music was decent. The tones were harmonious and there was no cacophony of noises that the younger generations call music but is more screaming and reciting than music made with real music instruments and not just synthetic instruments.

There was no internet, no smartphones and that was a blessing because people talked with each other and did not use binary code to communicate.

Yes I associate to the good older generation and not to the superficial ones like the Gen Z or millennial.

@SueShe hard to relate to someone who believes they are part of a generation that is designated as GEN Z' or Millennial'. I wonder who dreamed up those categories for a particular generation of people?

@Bricealan I have no idea who came up with those names. The letter Z makes no sense while I can understand the designation "millenials".

"Z" is perhaps in reference to the ever increasing illiteracy of a society that solely communicates with emojis and abbreviations and no longer masters grammar, proper sentences and punctuation.

Z is because the past few generations have been associated for letters now, because it's way easier to name them this way, since their common names usually comes from something important that happened in that period. Millennials, for example are are actually Gen Y, but are called millennials because they all remember going into the new millennium, and to some extent they are defined by those who also remember living through 9/11. Before them there was Gen X, and before them came the baby boomers, because they were born after the war, when the USA was thriving and people could afford to make and raise many more kids. And after Gen Z comes Gen Alpha, which is determined by kids born after 2012.

It has nothing to do with illiteracy, it's just that scientists needed to give names to newer generations and it was far easier to to that actively, with letters, than retroactively with names of events.

I asked my daughter, supposedly gen Z given her birthdate, she feels closer to alleged Gen X traits than so called gen Z traits

Gen X is 1965 to 1980, and came before Millennials. Did you accidentally mix and match those, or did you actually mean to say that your daughter feels closer to someone 2 generations before her, rather than any closer generation? Would you mind telling me her birth date, or at least if she is before or after 2004?
