Generation X, represent!
I always felt more akin to my Baby Boomer friends. We were the cut off generation when the online world happened. Millennials can argue that some were born before the internet - but when exactly? Five years prior? The fact remains that Millennials had the internet growing up whether they were kids or teens is still the case, while we did not. So because of that, I feel like there is a divide and a strengthened bond between us who grew up in a non-digitized world. We still did many things manually, and some things required time and patience, and we understood that.
When the generation of "time-out" parenting happened, creating Princess Complexes, Kindergarten Graduations, and Participation Awards, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought we were doomed. Thank goodness so many of the Millennials who were subjected to that grew up and out of it - or so I like to think. I'd hate to smear one whole generation based on a few that ended up damaged and spoiled from all the new age parenting hippies who decided it was best to not lie to their kids about Santa Claus.
Anyway, it's just one demented aunt's thoughts on the whole thing.

A lot of us are considered zillenials, because we're in the middle. But generations honestly are fake and arbitrary! I feel connected to some millenials with similar experiences and some gen z'ers with similar experiences, but completely disconnected from others.
Separating people based on generation doesn't make much sense honestly! There are gen Z'ers who are as glued to TikTok as people in our generation were to Vine, youtube, snapchat, MySpace, and millenials who were glued to MySpace and newgrounds type stuff. There are gen Z'ers who feel disconnected from pop culture just like people in our generation and millenials. It's complicated!
I suspect your generational influence, which you can't relate too, has a much smaller influence on people's live than you might believe, since U don't have a clue what you're talking about. I was in the middle east when you were born, wondering the same thing about Jerry curls, Dure Straits and the decline of the M-TV culture, and this knockoff countrywestern rockabilly upstart they called
VH -1.
I hate too break it too you, but no one cares, not then, not now. Fads are fads, nothing more. And if you were able too derive something meaningful and significant from any of those culteral conventions that had a positive influence on your life, than great. If not, doesn't really matter, in the broad view. I've been around long enough too see the influence my actions have had on human history too know that people who are defined by their generation, are undefined by anything, and history is something you learn from, so that you can create a better history lesson for future generations too learn from, when studying their history, by creating that history in the hear, and now.
Trust me everybody gets a feeling sooner or later that they are in wrong generation but it's only a choice of interests we build and make and honestly it doesn't matter there will be different types of mindsets in each generation and the values they hold but there is no specific idealogy that says all the people thought alike in past generations or it was the golden period people had have the same doubts as you are having of not tik tok some other social media or some form of media or video games we choose our own distractions

Sometimes it takes later historical events to make generational divides happen. You are on the cusp of "Millennials / Generation Y" and "Generation Z", but it may take some future event that makes the division clear:
Just as the "Silent Generation" (too young for WW2, too old for the Vietnam War) did not become clear until those events ended and started respectively, separating that generation from "The GI Generation" and "the Baby Boom" respectively.
Or the decline of "the Counterculture" and it's turning from something celebrated into something ridiculed made the division between "the Baby Boomers" and "Generation X" apparent.
Or the fall of the Soviet Empire made the division between "Generation X" and "Millennials / Generation Y" apparent.I also feel that way, although I am only born as a gen z er, I have looked at tik talks twice in y life and don't have a phone, but I feel like I have lived and died multiple times before since I used to read many fantasy books and books about peoples lives I feel like I was that person in the book when I read it hence living and dining multiple times, I feel like a wise old man who knows too much, at least sometimes. so I feel you, at least I think I do.
Me too 😔 i also just turned 22 in October. Except i don't like tik tok or the social medias but my heart feels like a teen but my mind is kind of mature at the same time.
Do you have Siblings older than you? My oldest sibling was born in the mid 80's so I was heavily influenced by the past. I am the same age as you. My mental age is 50 though. I am more like a 90's child though I grew up in the mid 2000's and early 2010's. I grew up using technology from the 90's and listened more to that music. I love Nirvana, Moby, Pearl Jam, and others.
girl dont you worry... i got born in 82, we are the original millenial, and belive me we do not relate to those Starbucks adicted hipsters lazy bastards that didn't even came with a name to they're generation. .. we are the ones that know digital and analogic tech... so basicly the most thech proficient in all the generations alive. so dont you worry, you as the ones of my gen... gonna find yourself in the middle of generations in a group that will be define later. q
I relate to this situation very well but I don't let it bother me. I'm a mature Millennial (born in 1986). But my personality would be %50 Gen X, %40 Boomer and only %10 Millennial.
I turned 22 in February and I am glad I am not completely integrated in gen z culture. I find the entire idea of putting your while life on social media pointless.
I've never known what Gen this Gen that even means. Does it matter what "gen" you're in? Why would anyone care?
I was born in the early 90s and don’t relate to most millennials either (I’d usually relate to the elite’s decadent lifestyles of the Victorian and Edwardian eras) 🎩
You know sometimes I feel that way too. I’m only 20 but sometimes I feel like I’m much older. But then I remember I have chronic depression and that’s probably why.
Me too. I'm born in 1999 but I hate today's trends. They're literally stupid.
As a guy born in early 90s i can say good for you. Stay sane girl.
I feel ya. I probably have the opposite problem: I'm a Millenial (late '80s) but I'm young at heart. I don't f with Tiktok, though. I don't even use SnapChat.
I completely understand what you are saying. Each generation has a large portion of ding bats (i. e. Tik Tok obsessed). Personally, I feel like I was born about 60 years too late.
that's a sign of being smarter than other people, you don't fit in with their bullshit. especially social media like tik tok
I relate a lot more to millennials than z gen, though i was born in early 98 so technically i am one...
Hurry Durr my generation good next generation bad!
At least the boomers complained about those 20 years younger. you're bitching about people barely 6 years younger.
Shut the fuck upIsn't it because late 90s like 1997 is generation y?
Nope, I'm from 1995 and I feel like I'm between the two as well
I have trouble identifying with scared rabbits and snowflakes
