How can I make real friends at university when I feel totally alone?

The girls in my class are very cold, and the boys are either working or hanging out amongst themselves. I'm a university student and I just sit at home. I went to a private school in high school, and everyone was a bully. I couldn't make any friends, I'm always alone. I'm watching Reels videos on Instagram, And I'm very bored.

Through common interests? All my friendships & relationships started somewhat like that I believe, just because I had at least one interest in common with any of them

There are no real friends at University. What you see on the surface is not the whole picture.

Most of these people are friends out of convenience after graduation they are unlikely to keep in touch.

But if you feel lonely and need friends I'd say try to join clubs. Are you at a big university or small university?

If big university there will be many many clubs that you can choose from and join

You have a very surface level understanding of people then.

OP mentioned his old high school people weren't nice I believe that as I often notice in these private school type of settings there tends to be a lot of leg pulling.

Probably OP comes across as a sad person etc. people tend to stay away from those types.

Does that make him the issue? If you can't say something nice don't say anything

Join a club.
