Like if a father told his son a secret that no one else in the family knows not even his wife. And vice versa with a mom and daughter. Is that weird?

For now, there's something only me and my mother-in-law know that no one else in either of our families know. Ironically, we have kept it for over 10 years to stop my sons from knowing it because if anyone else does, they'll find out and I'm still waiting to decide when they're old enough for me to tell them. At some point then, my older son and I will have it from my younger son, until I decide he's old enough too. It's just the three of us so it's not the immediate family we're keeping it from which is more what you're asking, it's my parents and all the in-laws we keep it from for now.
Let me guess. You bought Amazon stock at $4?
Yeah, I’d find that awkward in my own family.
My mother was seeing a man behind my father's back and my 3 sisters kept it quiet and treated it like it was no big deal.
When it came to light I refused to live with my mother despite the court order, nor would I accept her new man, eventually they let me live with my father and that was only because the new man didn't want me around. I was done with my mother and sisters and haven't talked to them in over 20 years.
My father was a good man, he's dead now but bad enough my mother did that but the complete betrayal of his daughters whom he was very good too.
They've reached out a few times to me, usually when they need help but they did what they did and still ain't even sorry or think they did wrong.
It is a little unsettling. It it a white lie or something sinister? Humans are complex

I guess it depends on what the secret is
I don't think it's weird but it could be a big responsibility being the only family member that know.
I don't think it is "weird"
that can happen for many reasons... and it seems to be common enough too
Depends on the child’s age. More acceptable if child is a grown adult.
My father was cheating on my mother and I found out about it. It was a secret that I kept.
Hell no! Maybe that relationship needs it or perhaps it just fits with how the relationship is. Im all for favoritism. There is nothing wrong with it.
True. There are people I feel less favorable about and don't treat them with the same kind of... likeability I have with others, mostly at work. But still pretty sad you could love someone in your family and not have anything in common with them. I mean... when I think about it, my mom did love our sister in a way she didn't really show to us, but it wasn't bad. It was just a female to female thing.
When I read about Joseph being Jacob's favorite in Genesis that did bother me.
Not weird but human shares each other burdens so having secrets is ordinary at some points.
It's not a bad thing
Who knows it's there secret.
Nope.
