Does your family have favorites?

My mom has a favorite (my brother) and my dad has a favorite (me).

I do not fault parents for having “favorites”. It’s human nature. There was even favoritism being mentioned in the Old Testament (Jacob and Esau)

It’s okay just as long the parent is self aware of it. Most parents do love all their kids and they won’t disown one unless they did something exceedingly bad.

But the problem arises when a parent is denial about showing favoritism. My mother was like this for decades. It wasn’t until very recently she has finally owned to it.

Jacob did some shady behavior deceiving Esau. He never seemingly got punished for it either. Maybe the fact that his father in law later jerked him around later (forcing him go work several years longer then he promised so he to marry his Rachel) was God’s way of punishing him. But he is still revered as an Old Testament patriarch.

Esau might have been foolish, impulsive and naive but he wasn’t a deceiver (and the Bible remember and mocked him for this). God later gave a commandment that “thou shalt not lie”. Weird how Jacob never got called out for that.

True point. Plus deceit is a serious trait of the devil, so it is curious that Jacob the deceiver got favor.

It just is what it is. I don’t have to understand why or agree with them. It does make me sad though. Mostly for my other two siblings who were resentful.

My late sister was moms Favorite and the youngest half sister was my dads favorite until I became his favorite in my late twenties. I have mine as well. Numbers 1 and 2 nephews and number 1 niece. Favorite sister. Favorites of every kind.

It would seem weird if there were no favorites. I think everyone has favorites but some may deny them thinking it's right.
