What should I wear on a cold, casual harbour cruise with friends?

One of my best guy friends that I'm making up with invited me to go on a cruise and I agreed and invited my girl best friend to join us. The dress code is apparently casual and comfortable. It'll be cold on the boat; we're going to sail along the harbour together. I have no one to impress there, but there'll be other people probably going too and I don't want to look like a slob if everyone else dresses up. While I want to be comfortable. Should I dress in layers, a smart casual sweater? Or a bulky, casual sweater?

Layers. It can get warm and then cold suddenly. It can change quickly, even if you're still relatively close to the coast.

Also, select some good shoes. You don't want to be on a boat / cruise on a wavy sea with shoes you can hardly walk on. Even gentle waves have an effect on the boat's stability.
