You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose! Ell oh ell!
More to the point, you can’t pick your family. Families can be complicated that way. You want to be supportive, but nobody is perfect. How do you show your kids that you still love and support them while guiding them to make better choices? How do you discipline them without leaving them to worry if you still love them? This is especially difficult with clever kids. Some children learn early how to manipulate their parents, for better or worse.
Kids are not all the same either. There’s an ongoing debate about discipline and punishment; especially where spanking is concerned. Some kids are easily corrected with a stern word. Others respond to nothing less than the sting of a swift swat on the butt. Coddling a kid that needs a spanking is just as bad as spanking a sensitive child. You have to know your kids. When you have multiple children, it’s tempting to apply equal measures out of “fairness”.
Raising a family is hard but many people seem to make it harder than it needs to be. Maybe the hardest part about raising a child is not knowing whether or not you did well until they are no longer in your care.

Surprisingly to the way things are, yeah!

Not generally speaking but embarrassingly so. But that's from all I did for them the last 15 and 20 years they were here. I'd definitely go through that hell for them again even if I talk to the contrary. It wasn't for merit or money. I loved'em.
