Who named you? What inspired your parents to give you that name?

My grandfather was friends with a man who would become the first prime minister of our country.
That man was visiting when my grandfather was born so they gave him his name.

And I was named after my own grandfather.

(Even though I’m his 13th grandchild out of 14)

I am named after my father.

My father is allegedly named after a friend of my grandfather's who I believe grew up near my grandfather. That friend was a brigadier general who is buried at West Point (the United States Military Academy in West Point NY). He has a common Italian first name which I now bear even though I am not of Italian descent at all. He, my father, and I all have the same first and middle names.

HOWEVER...
My grandfather was my grandmother's second husband... She was widowed at a young age and my grandparents got married because she was pregnant with my uncle giving birth 5 months after the wedding 96 years ago. My grandparents are buried adjacent to the grave of her previous husband and his relatives. One of his relatives seems to have been his little brother - so would have been my grandmother's brother-in-law. That brother-in-law has the same first name and middle initial as my father and me. So, for all I know, my grandmother went along with my father's name because it was also the name of that brother-in-law. By the way, my father's and my middle name is also the first name of her first husband.

My Mum told me part of my story, and I think I can apprehend the rest.

Apparently my aunties were very overpowering, and they were choosing my name, but fortunately my Mum refused to accept the name, because it had a double meaning.

I am happy with the name my parents chose.

my late grandpa that died a year before my mom got pregnant to me (after 6 year of marriage of trying to have a child) named me. i don't know where it came from since it is not a popular name at all.

the meaning: royalty, king of kings. also persian for hawk.

No story. Not honoring any family member. No grand process. My parents just picked one. My middle name on the other hand is a slightly funny true story.

But then my family had names like Bertha, Leetha, Edith, Malo, and Huena. So I'm thankful I wasn't named after some relative German or Scottish relative.

My parents said they liked the name. Nothing special. No one else in my family of ancestors has that name.

My middle name is the same as my grandfather, which is a common tradition in our family. My oldest son's middle name is named after my father, his grandfather. His first name is just one his mother liked, and I did too.

In the American South there is a tradition that a person does business using their first name, but family and close friends use their middle name. For example, I have a cousin named "Carmella Fran..." The family all call her "Fran" but at work she is "Carmella". I have never used my first name except on my passport and driver's license. Both my names are Gaelic, although my ancestry is German and English, probably mixed with some Scots Irish.

My Mom suggested my name. ''Andreas'' had been an ancestor in the 18th century who lived to an old age, where most others of them died before they were 50 (some had thought that the military doings of their bosses were their own business, others just had bad luck with diseases)

My dad was a small but strong man from Philly. Had a lot of friends. Some bully was picking on him and this big weenie guy named Jason had enough and he picked the bully up and threw him through a department store window. The glass cut his throat and the bully died. My dad married a hippy and when he found out they were having twins they decided to name us Kasey and Kody. When we were born he said "these two boys ain't Kasey and Kody that's gay" so he named me after Jason his bad ass friend and my twin brother Marc after my great uncle who blew up a Catholic church in Ireland during the troubles.

Some relatives come from France, although that's several generations ago. My mother wanted to give me the name Natalie or Natalia. My father liked Natasha better, so I guess they came to a consensus.
