How did your parents/guardians pick your first name?

My mom always thought that 1980s TV actress, Jasmine Guy, was pretty. Therefore, my mom decided that, if she ever had a daughter, she’d name her Jasmine. So, here I am. 😅

In Iceland we don't have family names. Our surname is our fathers first name with daughter or son added. My grandparents happened to have fathers who shared a name, so my dad decided as a kid that if he had a girl or a boy - we'd get their names. And here I am.

I legally changed my First and Middle names in court, because my dad wanted my first name to be his, and I hated the name because it was 'old school' and 'country'.

I changed my name (first and middle) to Bruce Alan, and got it spelled wrong here on GAG as Brice, and did not see the 'error' until it was too late to change.

My mom named me and my dad named my sister. I have no idea how my mom came up with my name but as a kid I really didn't like it. Especially in middle school - the unique spelling didn't help matters. 🙃
