What do you do to show respect and remembrance of a relative who has passed on?

I have my brother's funeral card with his favorite Psalm on my fireplace mantel. Behind it is a small envelope printed with his name, year and date of his birth and date of death. Above it is a picture of lavender flowers. I had ordered these to send them to relatives, with seeds inside for planting in his memory. I still have these envelopes, and a strange thing happened when I had them.

I had not yet sent them out, I tend to procrastinate this way. They were all on the same mantel, stacked up and ready to mail to relatives. I was once watching TV, and looked up at them, and one by one they all fell down, like dominoes ne on top pf the other. No windows were open, there were no drafts, it was spring. So I saw that as a sign that I should mail them, and I did.

I love this story. I'm sorry for your loss and thank you so much for sharing it. We have a type of flower that is specifically put out for funerals -- a type of jasmine -- and put it on the framed pic of the person who passed. The smell is supposed to remind us of them.

Thank you. I like the smell of jasmine. I ordered the envelopes with the lavender pictures because he liked the deep color of purple.

We usually have had a remembrance gathering with pics and whatnot.

Thankfully, hasn’t happened much.

Ty so much. Yes, our family is still young. I had an aunt that passed. We held a gathering where people could share photos.

It was a good way to also share stories that maybe the entire family were unaware of. It was a very nice way to celebrate her life.

Sounds beautiful. Back home we say "Memory Eternal" so the person lives on in the stories, memories and actions of those who remain to remember them.

For me, it's all about keeping their memory alive in daily life. I like to talk about them, share their favorite stories, or pause on special dates to reflect on the impact they had on my life. Honoring the values they taught me is the best way I can show respect.

My grandfather, I use what he taught me every day. For my father in law and mother in law, I try to make dishes that my wife remembers as a kid that they made her.
