Should I go to my younger friend’s distant birthday party in the park?

It’s next month, right across to the other side of town. I’m in my late thirties and my younger friend is turning 26. I feel like maybe I should turn up; but on the other hand, it’s a very long way from my home and there will be lots of young people there. At a park. Should I make an appearance and stay for a little while? Or should I make an excuse and give him his birthday gifts separately?
