Am I overreacting to my aunt posting photos of my newborn online without consent?

I’ve never been particularly close to my mum’s side of the family because I find a lot of them entitled and exhausting. Major family events often somehow become about them rather than the person the event is actually for. I don’t blame my cousins for their struggles, as I see many of them as victims of their upbringing, but I have particularly difficult relationships with my grandma and my auntie Emma.

Emma is extremely pretentious and constantly talks about her jazz/marching band. She has a habit of bringing them to family events and making herself the centre of attention. At my hen do, she booked a restaurant without asking me, so I chose Wetherspoons instead. At my dad’s 50th, she brought weed and tried to get everyone to smoke it despite my dad saying no.

She has also previously posted videos from my wedding and my sister’s wedding despite us not wanting them online.

Now it’s happened with my daughter, Felicity. She was upset that I didn’t take my three-day-old newborn to my nan’s 80th so she could meet her and see Emma’s band perform. She even commented on my Facebook post saying, “I haven’t seen her yet 😳.” I eventually made the effort to take Felicity to my cousin Ryan’s housewarming so everyone could meet her.

While there, Emma asked why I don’t post Felicity online. I explained that I work around criminals, including paedophiles, and don’t feel social media is safe for children. I specifically asked everyone to ask me first before posting her and to cover her face.

The next morning I found out Emma had posted a photo of Felicity publicly anyway. Her friends, many of whom don’t know me, my husband or Felicity, were liking and commenting on it. I reported the post because I shouldn’t have to repeat a boundary she already knew about.

I’m giving the report until tomorrow. If it’s still there, I’ll privately ask her to remove it. My mum doesn’t want to be involved, so I won’t mention her.

This has made me reconsider taking Felicity to family gatherings, including Christmas. It isn’t about keeping my family from her; it’s about Emma repeatedly acting as though other people’s boundaries don’t apply to her. Felicity is my daughter, and I expect my wishes as her mum to be respected.
