Why do people work so hard and so much money to keep the disabled kids alive?

By disabled, I'm not referring to the fully mentally intact individual who lost their leg in war. I'm talking about kids who are born with severe disfigurements, diseases, retarded, born without ears, severely autistic kids who can't talk, walk, eat or do anything for themselves. The amount of work it takes to care for them is ENORMOUS. They need 24/7 supervision, meaning there must be someone watching them 24/7. Some have medical needs so they need to be fed at 3am while everyone is asleep. This means someone needs to wake up in the middle of the night to feed them. They can't go to school by themselves due to their medical needs so someone needs to go to school with them. Some of these kids can't poop so they take an enema everyday which creates a huge mess in the bathroom that needs to be cleaned up daily. Your entire life revolves around this disabled person's every need. You can't go out for a walk because he needs to be watched. You miss events or dates because someone needs to feed him lunch at home. You can't sleep through the night because you have to wake up to feed him.

I work a job with a child that is like this... I'm burning out because he never gives me a break. He is exhausting. If he is let loose to run around the house, he will be falling from table tops, turning on the stove, pushing over flower vases. He is 8 years old but has the mental age of a 4 yr old. His family does not want to care for him at all because they're all burn out. I have been calling out of work and the family hates me for it cuz if I'm not caring for him, it means they will have to care for him. This child is an outcast, usually hidden in another room away from everyone else. He is such a big annoyance that the family doesn't want him out of his room.

My question is... why would the family decide to resuscitate him at birth if they just end up not wanting to care for him?

This kid is not capable of doing anything for himself, can't talk, can't contribute to society. It's a wonder how people work so hard to keep him alive... for what reason? just for him to sit there and cause a mess? stress everyone else out? the government paying millions to hire caregivers throughout his lifetime?

Because healthy and sane people, normal and decent, law abiding and honest people, who were not abused by their family or ex boyfriends and do not have weird desires and are not mentally insane liars like some people, have a natural and innate biological desire to help others.

They do not view helping needy children and seniors as punishment, they view it as a happy privilege.

I have met bible leaders who became doctors because they wanted to help others by telling those who recover from illness that they recovered because they prayed for them.

I read about a European nurse who volunteered in Africa saving those with ebola, caught ebola from his patient, and then returned to Africa to continue volunteering at their hospitals after he caught ebola from a patient and got better and he was a VOLUNTEER.

If you hate taking care of vulnerable children, you should quit your job and give your job to somebody who likes helping vulnerable children.

but you are ignoring the very issue that sustaining a life with disabilities takes an unsustainably enormous amount of money and resources and labor. Sure, its easy to say every life has dignity. But at what cost and sacrifice?

many of these kids won't even be alive today without the millions that the government pumps into Medicaid. Being able to hire 24/7 nurses, over 200k to attend a disabled children's school, going through multiple lifesaving surgeries, causing a mother an early death due to over work and burnout from caring for them? Just think about the consequences to sustain such a life.

you're not understanding the point of this question.
if a baby is born autistic, severely disabled at birth and struggling to breathe. Let the baby die on it's own. Don't drill a hole into it's throat so it can breathe, give it 20 different medications to help it survive through the day.

Then have the government spend millions of dollars hiring nurses to take care of him 24/7, getting surgeries, doctor visits, therapies, for the next 75 years till it dies. By the way, his disabled schooling costs 200k per year and the tax payers are paying for it.

The family is too exhausted and burn out to take care of this kid. Nobody wants to care for him. His mother died an early death trying to care for him 24/7.

sure, we aren't going to kill the kid, It is illegal. but is it worth it just to keep it alive? it's not like they will contribute to society anyways.
