Why would my coworker lie about who invited her to this marathon?

I was off that day when she got invited, so she messages asking me I want to come with a link to sign up for. She said this guy who was in charge of it specifically invited her and gave her link and than this other guy approached her later I was like oh okay so she asked the first guy if I can come he said yes.. than days later after the walk she tells me that her friend Drea was the actual one who really wanted her to join the walk and even tried helping her sign up but Jose the second guy had the information to sign up so he helped her…. My question is why wouldn’t she tell me the truth from start as if she hiding something.
