Why are brothers so over-protective?

OK so I have 5 brothers (28.25.23.16.8) I'm 21 they are way to over protective even the 8 year old. once a guy started to flirt with me he came up to me held my hand and called me mommy. I toke my 16 year old brother to Wal-Mart, a guy kept checking me out, he went up to the guy and said ''shes off limits'', I went to go to my neighbors house to see if I could borrow an egg from him, my outfit wasn't the most conservative, I had short shorts and a grey shirt that stopped just before my hips but, my 3 eldest said since my neighbor is 32, that he might kidnap and rape me. so what I'm asking is why are brothers protective of their sisters its ridiculous. Any advice on how to tell them to control their protective hormones?

Be firm. Tell them it stops and there's nothing to it. If they don't stop their bullsh*t, you'll be very angry with them, and you should be. Stop talking to the bastards, for gods sake, whatever it takes. It's important that they understand the gravity of their situation, otherwise you'll end up having a boyfriend with a broken jaw or something, and imagine what'll happen when you want a baby? You're 21, not f***ing 12. Demand respect, and don't delude yourself into thinking they're doing it for your benefit, which so many sisters do - it's not even their hormones. It's a posturing self-righteousness, it's a bullsh*t machismo thing, overprotective brothers, overprotective husbands, overprotective fathers, it's all the same. They think they're such a MAN for it. Emasculate them.

Well, this youngest probably just copy his brothers protectivness.

Talk to them. Nicely. Not defensively. Tell them that there are good guys. And that they might be wrong in judgement. And that you can handle it now.

If that does not work, just ignore it and try to find time when they are not with you.

Gahh.. I can't believe you are complaining about this! I wish I could have a protective brother .. the reason why you think they are way too protective is because nowadays , the liberal thinking says that we are all free to do whatever the hell we want and no one has power over the other. But , they are your brothers, they know how men think , and they know that you are good looking.

And no matter what you say or if you ask them , they will never stop being like this! It is their duty as the men of the house! .. Respect them , and as long as they do not embarrass you in public ( excluding the younger ones who have no idea what they are doing ) ,you should appreciate what they do for you. Agghhh I would kill for a brother :D

They are concerned for your welfare your the only girl in the family, so your the only sister of course they are going to be protective you should be happy that they care, maybe tell them you'd like them to lay off a bit.

Do you have an hour to read because i could give ya a million answers.
Brothers are so protective because we love and cherish our sisters even if they are older, we want to protect them out of instinct. Let me give you an example.
Say im going shopping with my little sister because she is to young to go on her own or doesn't have a ride (she is 12) and a guy who is a year or two older starts flirting with her and getting a little to touchy. First thing id do is say back off, if he doesn't i will then proceed to showing him why you don't mess with a third degree black belts sister.
See what i mean we hate seeing our sisters unhappy so if anyone messes with them we are going to go ape shit. If i could give a piece of advice to a fuckboy it'd be this "you wanna be a jackass fine, but don't you date touch any of my sisters"
