Is there such a thing as "mommy issues"?

Like women can have "daddy issues" in which the absence of their father affects them in future relationships. But is it the same for guys but with the absence of their mother?

Definitely, lol. I'm a girl, and I don't have daddy issues but I DO have mommy issues. Which is funny considering my dad was the one I saw less, and lived with my mom. But my mom was the emotionally absent person, she was distant and unaffectionate, and I think that can be even more damaging than having a physically absent parent. It certainly was in my case, as I now have 'abandonment' issues and couldn't be happy with a partner I didn't feel was affectionate and emotionally present enough. I still don't have a close relationship with my mom and we often don't get along, but I have a great, loving and open relationship with my dad and always have, even when he lived out of state for years.

Obviously my mommy issues manifest themselves in quite a different way from how a guy would typically experience them. Same diagnosis, but different symptoms, haha.

Yes. If you take psych you should learn about the Oedipus Complex which is Freud's theory that children develop a stronger liking (such as falling in love with them, I suppose) for their parent of the opposite gender and become jealous of the parent of the same sex (weird, I know, but Google. It's true). So when that parent of the opposite gender is absent or there is some other issue with that parent then that child misses the opportunity to experience love for the opposite gender for the first time and all the things that come with falling in love, such as trusting people of the opposite gender. Instead they are left with sour feelings towards that gender versus love and trust.

Yes. I've met guys who were treated badly or not raised by their mothers in their formative years and they often have issues. they express themselves in different ways depending on the person of course, but usually you see it in guys who have extreme hatred of women in general, guys who are really disrespectful

Yeah, I would think so, but it's going to be more subtle because almost all of us had moms when we were growing up. Daddy issues are more powerful because the father was completely absent. Mommy issues are probably the opposite of Daddy issues where the mom is too great a part of their loves for too long. I think men with mommy issues are probably the ones who were babied by their moms their whole lives. They're going to want you to take care of them and be dominant in everything.

That's a good example too. Too much affection and too much presence can be just as damaging as not enough, just in different ways, lol.

Of course! I know this guy who's mom was a crack head, always gone, then put him & his 4 brothers in foster care when they were young. Then got them back but was married to a bad guy. She was still a ccrack head. He's like 38 and still can't have a decent relationship with a woman. I don't think he knows how to love anyone. Even his kids. Talks about his mom like he hates her even though she's dead now. Really messed up dude. Mommy issues I'd guess.

Definitely. They aren't sure how to love a woman and they haven't seen how a man and woman are in a relationship.

Yes. My husbands mother was very cold. In a sense he is emotionally needy for all the love she never showed him. I completely understand. I just never thought men were affected that way.
