What do you do if your parents don't believe in you?

Ones that don't give you any credit as to who or what you are? Ones that refuse to believe a fact just because you've spoken it? Ones that don't give you emotional support?

Do you have parents like this?

All through your life you're going to run into people like that. People who don't want to see you succeed. People who will call you a liar. People who will never believe in you. People who will try and knock you down to boost themselves up. It's a rough brake when it's your own parents but regardless, f*** them. Believe in yourself because too few others will.

Do whatever it is you do anyway as a F***you for not believing and a tribute to yourself.

Generally just cut them out of your life though, or minimise their effect on you. Whenever they say something, don't even listen not worth your time.

Not meaning to cut them out or anything but it's pretty much like that as it is. That's what makes it worse - if we talk it's *that*. Even still, I don't want them out of my life, I appreciate them even if I don't really know them. What impresses a parent more than status? So many say this is not the case, but really, it's a large part of it with mine. I wonder if pampering them works.. xD that would be hard to do but it must be better than rebelling. :P

Mine are the same. All I have to say is just be you. I used to care too much about what they thought and was miserable. Now I'm just being me and I'm happy. Prove your parents wrong.

Talk to them about it, other then that id say believe in yourself, if you believe in yourself nothing can stop you(: ..it would be hard though so I would try talking to them..

I don't want to talk to them, they don't understand (I've done that many times). I guess I find it hard to believe in myself because nothing is good enough and everything is nothing. I try and they unknowingly put me down and I just can't help but feel sad. I guess I'll just have to let go of thinking about what a parent should be, maybe then it won't effect me. Make them feel so stupid when I prove them wrong.

Luckily for me, I don't have parents who are like that. My parents are incredibly supportive.

Anything is possible :) Sometimes parents who are like that are only like that because there is so much that they never accomplished personally. So maybe they feel envious of you accomplishing it. Or sometimes, that's just how their parents chose to communicate with them and they are redirecting such unhealthy communication onto their offspring.

no, I do not have. my parents always believe and support me. there is much different between chinese parents and American parents. I do not know which is correct, but I do know all parents love their children. do not worry, try to understand your mom and your dad. thank you.

I could but I'd rather accept them for who they are (or more what they do) instead of trying to understand them. I'm not sure how to truly understand what I don't know. Anyway, I know they love me, there's no doubt. Even if they could ever muster saying that they don't, sorry, that's impossible for me to believe. XD
