Here's the real trick to taking good selfies in any clothing.

Google the time of sunrise/sunset in your area, and only take the picture +/- 45 minutes of that time.

That's it. Done.

Basically, because the sun is at a very low angle, the light bounces differently off the surrounding background and off the atmosphere differently, and it makes for the most beautiful pictures regardless of the camera and skill of the photographer.
