Summer Staple Pieces

1. Hat and Shades

It's hot and since skin cancer sucks and you don't want to ever get it, rock a hat during your summer outings where you will be out in the sun without a tree in sight. You don't have to go full on Kentucky derby, but a little can go a long way. Also a pair of shades will be your best friend when the sun seems to be trying to burn a whole into your corneas, or you're trying to secretly check out the guy on the beach towel next to you.

2. A light as air summer floral maxi dress

A summer staple for sure, this dress should be able to seamlessly take you from daytime strolls, to night time drinks. Look for something in a light cotton or chiffon or rayon. To dress it up a bit for night, wear it with a bit more jewelry and a pair of heels as opposed to sandals.

3. A tote

You're going to be on the go, going from beach to dinner to park to museum to whatever you, your family, and friends want to do, and that involves a lot of "stuff." A good sturdy summer tote will help you lug all your crap stylishly.

4. Bold bright colors

Now is definitely the time to bring out your bright reds, your yellow yellows and your pink pinks. The sun is shining, and these colors will pop. Studies have even shown that rocking bright colors can help improve your mood, so ditch the black (at least for a little while).

5. Something with a little skin

Even if you are a modest dresser, summer is the time to let your skin breath whether that's with just a little peak-a-boo shoulder, or a small keyhole back, or more daring with cut-outs and low V's or deep backs, or short shorts.

6. Strappy Sandals and Cute Flats

Let your toes breath for a change and get excited about showing off your pedicure again. There are so many fun options to wear with your shorts, or summer dresses, that the possibilities are endless. If you are on a budget look for shoes in nude or flesh tones so that they can literally go with everything.
