Lookbook: Outfits to Show Off Your Upper Body

Shoulders

One of my favorite movie quotes reads: "A woman’s shoulders are the front lines of her mystique, and her neck, if she’s alive, has all the mystery of a border town. A no-man’s land in that battle between the mind and the body." It's that sharp line of the clavicle, the hint of the approach of cleavage just below, the reveal of a bit of back and neck---it all works to showcase the beautiful lines of the body and ones beautiful face and hair.

Back

Even when fully covered up, just a hint of a sliver of ones back can be just as sexy as showing off say, one's cleavage. It can also juxtapose a very demure outfit with just the turn of the feet to reveal the surprise of the back exposed in a dress or top. You can go full on exposure, or look for amazing detail that make turning around a surprise to all behind you. Straps, lace, cut-outs, geometric patterns, sheer---every bit can be a fun addition to a wardrobe.

Stomach

You can choose to show off everything under the bust on down to slightly below the belly button if you choose if you are a total fan of what you've got going on. A great way to do this is with a fun flirty crop top. If you have a bit of a pooch, look for pants that suck and tuck and go up over the belly button, aka, higher waisted pants...but take care that they aren't creating an unflattering muffin top line around your middle by making sure the inner flattening panels or structure smoothly glide over your midsection and pull it all in. Another great option is to wear a higher waisted A-line skirt or skater skirt which will flow over your bottom half and put more attention on the top half that you want to rock.

Bust

There are ways to showcase your bust without going too far. Let me temper this by saying...wear what you want, BUT, to avoid scandalous territory, side boob, under boob, or the boobs shoved up under your chin look, should probably be avoided. If you are literally spilling free from your top, you need to size up, look for a more supportive top/bra with an underwire or corset built in, or have it altered to fit you, and not the mannequin it came on. If your top is too tight, you will look and feel too uncomfortable, so take care.
