Are ripped jeans tacky?

Question

I just bought my first pair of ripped jeans not too long ago and I like them so far. But then I started thinking, what is the point of the rips? Is it supposed to make jeans look cheap? They're just so artificial, not sure if I like that anymore.

I think ripped jeans are sexy and a cute stylish way to reveal some skin when the weather isn't yet appropriate to go for shorts. It's only tacky and going overboard if it has rips in revealing places that reveals one's butt (Yes I've seen them and I joke that it must be the worse if the person passes gas lmfao)

I love ripped jeans (such as the example posted) so much that I personally create my own rips in old worn out jeans at times.

I like ripped jeans. They go with the “edgy” style that I like. The thing I don’t like about them is they rip more over time. I can’t deal with over-ripped jeans.

A great pair of jeans, fit good, feel good and look good when you wear them, so you love those jeans well after they are ripped and torn.
Pre-worn/stressed jeans emulate that feeling those perfect pair of jeans gave you.
The style became popular because of that, we even like to see them on others because it shows that person feels like you, good decisions, commonalities.
So they attract and sell because of it. The manufacturer is smart enough to use it against you and your subconscious mind. Hit you right in the feels.

The second picture provided looks tacky, cheap and visually unappealing, looks like she was attacked by an animal, washed the jeans and wore them the next day, but the first picture looks fine, the traditional horizontal rips with a bit of skin showing is trendy and looks good, but this is all my opinion, wear whatever makes you feel good!
