I hate and despise my own face to a point where I feel disgusted?

Question

I hate and despise my own face to a point where I feel disgusted and that is no lie. Can you have bodydismorphia with with your face? Whenever I see a picture of myself I almost shudder and whenever someone, either my boyfriend or friends will give me a compliment I almost want to laugh at the ridiciolous statement they've made. I feel so insulted when my boyfriend can tell me I look pretty without makeup, when I first and foremost don't have good skin nor enough hair on my eyebrows. It's like... come on..

I'm nowhere near pretty in my opinion, pretty to me is... Kendall Jenner. Big eyes, flawless skin, perfect eyebrows, perfect smile and I always compare myself to her. She comes out perfect in any picture and looks great without any effort, meanwhile I could try to look good for hours and still feel so hideous. It's been this way for years and it's not getting any better? :/

I can understand where you are coming from because I’ve delt with & am still dealing with a lot of insecurities regarding my appearance myself. I think something to understand is that contrary to popular belief, beauty doesn’t give you power if you consider the true definition of power - it doesn’t give as much as you might imagine & models are often super depressed - they don’t necessarily have a higher quality of life - you can control your quality of life. Also, put other media into your mind than you are right now. Listen to different music and surround yourself with other things that empower you. Regardless, I’m sure you are not disgusting at all - that many wish they look like you. You should appreciate what you have because as you age you will wish you look back on how you look right now and think your were silly to not see how attractive you were / are

I used to feel the same way. Everyone seemed to look so perfect in photos, their smiles were so perfect... It was really hard to love myself. I can`t really explain it but... I just kind of grew out of it. I feel really confident for some reason. I`m happy. I don`t consider myself hot or amazingly good looking, but there are other things I love about myself, and that kind of drives the focus away from my appearance. You`ll never be like those Instagram models (harsh reality- I know), but you only live once and there are so many other things you can do to be more confident. Be happy, have good hygiene, and be kind to others. I`m sure you are a lot more attractive than you think, we always judge ourselves too hard.

Maybe dont compare yourself to others? Especially celebrities?
Sure she is pretty. But her job mostly is about looks. She is polished and airbrushed and has all sorts of resources from surgery to the best dermatologists and makeup and stylists etc.
You are probably just average. Most human beings are average looking. The outliers are either extremely attractive people who just have good genetics or girls who are so average but know how to do their makeup well and look put together + work on the rest of their features and body.
Lots of celebrities are average or even quite ugly in my opinion. Its just people love to idolize those who 'seem' to have it better than us , be it looks or whatever else.

"Pretty to me is..." That's the issue. Not everyone thinks she's the definition of pretty. I find the girl-next-door look much prettier. We all have our preferences and our own way of seeing things. Try to accept others' preferences, because if you scoff every time your boyfriend tells you you're pretty, you're trivializing his opinion and he'll eventually stop trying to compliment you at all. That happened with my ex-wife, and when the marriage therapist explained it to her, she just couldn't seem to grasp it. She caused the situation she was complaining about because she cared more about the opinions of random strangers than mine. So since my opinion didn't matter, I didn't voice it.

Body dysmorphia with your face sounds like a very logical thing that people could have and if it is very serious should be treated the same as Body (Body dysmorphia ) issues. Read up on support site, read other peoples' experiences on forums and maybe think about consulting with professionals.

This sounds like Snapchat-dysmorphia. Which is sadly a new but real thing. The filters are ruining women's self-esteem and self-image.
