Would you be offended if someone wore an M43 feldmütze without any insignia in public?

An M43 feldmütze is a military field cap that originated in Germany during WWII. It was worn by almost every branch of German military during the war and also post war by the Finnish army and the West German Bündesgrenzschutze. Today it’s still worn by the Bundeswehr, gebirgsjäger and German couriers.

You’ve probably seen it in many WWII movies, tv shows and video games. Oddly enough it inspired the design of the US military’s modern patrol caps and utility covers.

I ask this since I recently purchased one on Amazon because I find it very stylish. I’ve only worn it a few times in public and nobody seems to care.

There’s nothing “nazi” about a cap designed for the German military that has no insignia on it. A “Nazi cap” would be the one that has the reichsadler and swastika on it.

If it were a “nazi cap” as you say it is, then it wouldn’t still be worn by the German military today and it wouldn’t have been the inspiration for the US military’s patrol caps and utility covers.

No... It's a hat... As long as the symbol isn't on it... It's just like other things, like tanks, planes, guns, etc. that where used by the Axis powers. The machines itself is just, well, a machine, nothing more. It has no ability what however to have any kind of opinion at all. So it's not the machine, but the user, and as long as you simply admire it as a piece of machinery and nothing more, then it's all good.

You could also think of it like what if someone wore, say, an Allied piece of clothing in Germany or Japan. Would people be offended?
Not only that but most of these WW2 Allied clothing replicas have the symbols and stuff still on them...

Without insignia it is just a hat. Even so, I often wear a surplus East German field cap- with insignia, to the shooting range. So far, no American veteran of the Cold War has been bent out of shape over it.

The German feldmütze of WWII comes from Austrian feldmütze of WWI - Feldmütze M1908. It is however only an hat.

Actually, I wear one all the time. And only a few people ever realize what it is! It is a very warm cap and comes in very handy in the winter.
