Can fishnet stockings ever be considered fashionable?

And not a major fashion faux pas? I really wonder if there's even a way to make them an actually valid choice.

Personally, I have a hard time seeing them as appropriate in any kind of situation, unless the wearer is a goth girl or practices the oldest profession.

Tonight I went to an event and my plus-one spoiled an otherwise perfect outfit - dark gray turtleneck sweater, skirt and boots with those much maligned fishnets. I didn't say anything but she must have noticed my asides glances because she mentioned she had dressed up in an hurry, as if to justify her crime against fashion. Now I have to go to bed with those horrible fishnets haunting me.

Fishnet stockings were very much in style during the hippie era. They came in all different colors - even bright green and red. I used to wear the cream colored one's a lot. We wore them with sandals.
So that answers the question if they were ever in style.
Personally, I think a great outfit with black fishnets and black patent heels always looked sharp. But that's just my taste
As for you, if you don't have OCD then you are a perfectionist for sure.
I used to be a perfectionist until I learned it was a bad thing and not an asset. You will drive everyone around you crazy.
Just remember, you cannot possibly live in another person's skin, so don't expect them to think the same as you.

Out of the clear blue sky, he looked at me and said "Your sense of humor has changed". I replied "It's not my sense of humor that had changed, it's my character that has changed". there's been millions upon millions of people across generations who have seen this as a fashion item and yes, that is just perspective

and the same goes for everything else... some think that leather is the most styling thing out there, while others can't stand it, lol... same for denim, fur and so many other things

They're always going to have a sexual association. They won't be fashionable for day-wear. The might get more popular for nighttime, or for home use, lol, but they won't make it into the standard wardrobe for day, I think.

I like them, I think they're sexy, but I have never actually worn them for anything but a short time because they hurt my feet, the texture. I think they look very sexy on some women though. At night.

It doesn't have to be necessarily conservative, but at least not gaudy.
