How come you cannot compliment a black person's hair without them getting offended?

I'm white, and my co-worker is black. I have always seen her with braids, but the other day, she showed up to work with a ponytail. I complimented her, saying, "I really like that new style on you!" She looked me dead in the eyes and said, "Did I vcking ask you?" It was only a compliment.

Many of the commentss are stating that black women don't do this. However, I've seen many cases of it happening to lots of other people. They're very sensitive about their hair. They have piss poor attitude in other situations as well. My Fiancee works with a black girl as well and comes home and tells me all the horror stories about that girl's awful attitude.

The "angry black woman" stereotype is a stereotype for a reason.

This only refers to African Americans/African Canadians though. All the Nigerian, Rwandan, and Ethiopian born black women I've met were sweethearts.

Not all black people are like this. But I think they might be sensitive when it comes to their hair and random things in general.
What happened with me was we were throwing a Juneteenth party right at work and a white lady had brought Popeyes with homemade Mac and cheese. It was great but a few employees complained and she was fired. She didn’t mean anything bad by it either. She was a really nice lady.

Your coworker not liking you or reacting negatively to your comment does not mean that it's not okay to give black women compliments on their hair.
