Hot means you want to mate. The brain tells you something is hot when your hormones are activated by an attractive symmetrical face, for example. The person looks incredibly fit and gorgeous and you can’t stop staring. A reproductive mechanism.

Cute is features of youth, like big eyes and chubby pink cheeks and soft skin. It brings with it feelings of warmth, you want to take care of cute things because most of the time they’re young and helpless. A survival mechanism.

The difference is really a full encompassing “feel”. Looks, personality, dress, etc. in my opinion it’s better to be cute because that is closer to wife material while hot is just I want to date them.

This will sound weird but 1) you ever look at people and think “they look like X animal.” I do and for me mousy and birdlike features are my favorites in women with mousy being cute and bird like being beautiful.

2) I organize looks into 4 categories; cute, beautiful, sexy, hot. Hot comes up the least. Imagine girls night out at the clubs for hot. Sexy is either very erotic / provocative or ideal body shape. Cute is like a girl next door. Kind of plain with a wide spread of possible personalities but down to earth.
