+1 yI don’t have a tatt but my husband does. He got it when he was 16. On his right shoulder. It’s kind of a funny story. It’s a mandarin character. I asked him what it meant early in our relationship and he said “evil.” 😳
I contemplated breaking up with him but decided to hear him out. He said his plan was to do “good” and “evil” like a conscience. He got evil first because it was $10 cheaper. He’s 41 now and still just has the 1 tatt. 🤔
Anyway, to make a long story longer, he told his mom it meant “kind person.” 🤣🤣🤣
Then she said that on our Florida vacation and I laughed out loud and he had to shush me.
All that to say, who the hell knows what it really says? And he’s still stuck with it. Used to be black, now it’s a faded blue.32 Reply- +1 y

Oh, I've heard quite a few stories about tattoos from friends! Some absolutely adore their ink because it represents something deeply significant to them – like a memory, a milestone, or a loved one. It's like carrying a piece of art that tells a story everywhere they go. On the flip side, I also know folks who have had second thoughts, especially with tattoos done on a whim or during their younger years. For them, changes in personal taste or lifestyle made the tattoo feel less meaningful, even out of place. It's a mix of love, nostalgia, and sometimes a pinch of "what was I thinking?" But hey, that's the beauty of life's journey, isn't it? Each mark, a story to tell. 😊 What's your tattoo story?

+1 yI have one on my right forearm that I got in university (my best friend at the time was actually a tattoo artist). I do regret it now.
One of the main things I didn't realize (even though I spent my childhood in Japan) is how restrictive Japan is towards people with tats. I'm forbidden from entering many gyms if I have my tat showing, swimming pools, sometimes even bars won't let me in if I have my tat exposed.
People have suggested laser removal surgery and it's becoming very cheap here in Japan, but it usually requires multiple rounds to fade out even sparse tats substantially. I suspect it won't count in places that bar people with tats unless it's completely invisible, and my design is very dense.
On the flip side, it's a reminder of my youth and all my silliness back then and why I shouldn't repeat it. I have a love/hate relationship with it so I don't passionately want to remove it. It's kind of okay now with me. I'm used to wear long-sleeve shirts and an arm band to cover it in places that require me to do so.
20 ReplyI only have two tattoos but they are fairly large and colorful on my upper arms.
They are *mostly* covered when I wear short sleeves, which is nice, but when I wear tank tops, sleeveless or go shirtless the tattoos are unfortunately the first thing people see.
It can be so embarrassing to go out in public sporting these Playboy bunnies on my arms. I often pretend the tattoos aren't there, so when people stare, point or make comments at first I pretend not to know what they are referring too.
I try to laugh them off, and change the subject, but occasionally people will not let it go and harass me with derogatory comments.
The worst part is these tattoos basically make me invisible to girls as I get unfairly judged. That's the ironic part, as I got them to try to make conversation with girls but when they see me coming they won't give me the time of day.

+1 yI have a whole leg sleeve and regret nothing. It took me YEARS and seeing many artists work before I decided on which artist I like and what they can do for my leg. It’s a story and a representation of myself.
My partner has his whole upper half done including sleeves, chest and back, and a few on his legs. I know he mentioned he regrets some of the artwork but for the post part, it’s also his story and his passion.30 Reply
+1 yI currently have 8 tattoos and have my next 6 planned and another 4 getting ready to be done and I don't regret a single one of them because I made it so that they're all meaningful to me in some way, so if you want a tattoo that you don't wanna regret ever get something that means something to you
