I always found it too constraining to apply in all but the loosest sense. There's a harmony and order in the golden ratio but you can't appreciate order without deviations to it.
It's like music as I see it. If you have music with perfectly quantized notes, the most repetitive of rhythms, no dissonant notes, no key modulations, everything in perfect functional harmony, we can't really appreciate the structure and harmony of it because everything is harmonious.
There's nothing we can take granted faster than paradise as I see it because there's no hell to contrast against it.
