How many christian folks on here actually believe and practice the 'golden rule'?

Question

As an atheist and former devout catholic i still take much value from this famous bible quote and do try to adhere to it even today. Sometimes i think christians forget about this very important rule!

I am a pagan, but I basically follow the same thing. It's like karma, what you put out returns to you. Even in a non religious point of view it makes sense as cause and effect. It's common sense if someone acts idiotic to a nice person and that nice person doesn't respond well.

I like the reverse version. I do unto others as they have done unto me. As you can tell I make a terrible religious person, might make a better demon.

Even I can't make that boast. But I do try. I wouldn't lie and say that I am successful. As for the GaG faithful, I would say the non-Christians are better following the golden rule than the self-identified ones.

I feel like that phrase can be kind of subjective. What if someone thinks poorly of themselves and thinks they deserve negative treatment? Should they also treat others negatively?

I think that rule makes the assumption that we all appreciate the same things and desire the same kind of treatment. Some things that can be considered kind and benevolent in one culture can be seen as an offense in another. I think people and the world are far too complex to assign any single rule to.

It does have a positive message though.

A lot of good advice in the bible eveb for non-Christians.
Like an eye for an eye. Might not just be about getting revenge but also relates to "do onto others as you would have them do onto you". Basically ig you take someone's eye you may expect then to do the same to you.

I don't practice it but live it :p I tend to mirror peoples behavior so if you want to stick a dagger in my heart don't be surprised when I parry best I can & thrust back. On the other hand if someone does something for me I ALWAYS give back with something of greater or equal value, these can take many forms.

I live by the opposite rule. I treat others as they have treated me. I don’t really consider myself Christian but I do pray nightly to a higher being, so take from that what you will.

I'm Christian (in name at least) and I do try to practice the golden rule as much as possible. I'm not perfect and I could definitely be better and I'm self aware of that.

A lot of stuff slips away from some Christians. I try to live that every day. But that's why we have God who is forgiving. God never said to sit and take "this" and not defend yourself from negative talk. If that makes sense?

They will all say they do. In reality some do, some don't. For some, the "others" part of "do unto others" only includes the folks that look like them and believe as they do.

I follow the rule, but knowing the world, I also follow Luke 11:21
