Socks for me

After an endless winter heatwave, and another predicted day of rain we will not receive, it is cool-er.. so was digging through my sock drawer for warmer socks.

I came across my old friends. They are darker green, thick, well-made socks with puff paint in dots on the bottom to prevent slipping on hard flat surfaces.

I remember going out to get these purposely because 7th grade split gym for six weeks, girls going to gymnastics and boys going to the weight room.

I was pissed as I wanted to hit the weights being really tall and lean. But, no. Bastards. •Pushes that part of the memory back into repression•

These socks were the best part of those horrible six weeks of torturous punishment, (minus the rope climb that was fun) I could flip them to the tops run and slid on the wood floor between all the equipment pads and into all the obnoxious girls when the teacher wasn't looking and fein innocence. It was great.

I applaud them both for another year of duty.

What about yours? Does it have a sentimental story?

I have a pair of slippers that my grandmother knitted for me when I was maybe 13 or 14. I just found them a few years ago, so they are still in great shape.

I have a few concert T-shirts from the 70s. A couple of them are almost 55 years old.

I have an old leather motorcycle jacket I picked up used when I was in my early 20s. So that makes it 25 years that I have had it. How old it really is I have no idea.
